Trends in car design – apps, remote control, speech interface …

Just discovered on their newsroom website. Apps and remote control are the two major trends in the next generation of cars. Let’s hope that the apps will be easy to use and the system will be secure from hackers. The advertising video for the Jaguar XE, that contains this technology, itself is a nice work of art.

Personally I would like to test the speech control. As far as I am aware there are still flaws like accents, noise in the environment and of course the pattern of dialogue to dial e.g. with ambiguity of human language …, but may I am mistaken. They claim that all features can be controlled via speech. It would be interesting how the dialogue works. Is the system flexible and smart enough to understand what the driver wants even if the specific term for the feature is missing? How does it work if its noisy in the car and there are passengers in the background?
